Elegant Wedding In Karst, SLOVENIA
Karst is a very unique region in Slovenia. It’s interesting in all seasons. It can be so green, but also dray and full of all sorts of warm pastel colors. Vanja and Nikola adore Karst, so they have decided to get married near the antient Church of St. Anton, not far from typical Karst village Šepulje. It was magical! Gorgeous sunny day without clouds, beautiful light and amazing scenery with incredible colors…
Wedding preparations at Domačija Šajna
The wedding story starts in Ljubljana with Vanja’s getting ready: hair at Matjaž Šiška – Mič Styling and make-up by Maja Šušnjara. After that we went to Domačija Šajna in Šepulje, an old karst house restoredinto a pleasant restaurant, where the newlyweds got elegantly dressed. The village of Šepulje lies at the foothills of a low hill, which protects it from the north wind. It is surrounded by vineyards, planted in the fertile terra rossa (reddish soil). Vanja put on her Alexander McQueen dress and Jimmy Choo shoes, Nikola put on his Dolce & Gabbana dress and Fabi shoes. The wedding bouquet was made by Emporia. Then the musicians Klapa Skitnice started to play and the wedding at Domačija Šajna in Šepulje was in full swing.
Wedding ceremony at Church of St. Anton
The Gothic church of St Anthony stands in solitude, a kilometer away from Šepulje. The church was built in Romanesque style. It was completed and consecrated in 1470, with the recommendation to Anton Opat to keep the cattle safe. Ultimately, the church and the nearby pond (where women used to do the laundry), were renovated in 1966. The Turks plundering the Karst presumably kept their horses in the church, as a fresco on the eastern part shows. The girls from the region used to come and pray to St Anthony for a husband, as he is the patron of marriage. The guests were waiting for the wedding ceremony at the hidden location on the top of a hill near the church, when Vanja and her father arrived to the ceremony on Vintage Vespa. So simple and beautiful. There were a lot of smiles, but also tears…

After the ceremony, which was nicely decorated by Anja Delbello, Aljaž Vesel and Katja Mlakar from agency AVI, we made some portrait photos in a beautiful place with high dray grass and a lonely dry tree in the centre.
Wedding reception at Domačija Šajna
The reception was powerful! Nikola is a former tennis player, so he invited all his sport colleagues to the wedding. You can imagine the energy of these people. It was really magical – full of fun, emotions and crazy ideas. The guests were tasting “the kraški pršut” and other local specialities, accompanied by a glass of genuine “kraški teran” (karst red wine). One of the highlights of the day was the surprise that Nikola’s tennis friends have prepared for him – a video with congratulations from past champions at Wimbledon. Yes, his friends interviewed the past winners at Grand Slam Wimbledon. Well, you can see Nikola’s reaction… Unbelievable! The party with DJ Baza went on with dancing in the rain till the morning…
